Privacy Policy

Introduction

You-Attend (“the Service”) is an attendance tracking application designed for higher education institutions. We are committed to protecting the privacy of instructors, students, and staff who use the Service through their institution’s Learning Management System (LMS).

You-Attend operates in alignment with applicable education privacy standards, including FERPA. We do not sell, rent, or share personal information, and we collect only the minimum data required to deliver attendance functionality.

Information We Collect

Last Name
Email Address (if released by the institution)
LMS User ID
LTI User Identifier
User Role (e.g., Instructor, Learner)
Course and section identifiers

Information Not Collected

Social Security Numbers
Dates of Birth
Home Addresses
Government-issued identifiers
Grades, assignments, or academic content

Information Generated Through Use

Attendance records
Timestamps of system activity
Instructor-entered course settings
Security and access logs

How Information Is Used

You-Attend uses collected information solely to:

Authenticate users through the LMS
Identify courses and display rosters
Record and manage attendance data
Generate reports for instructors and administrators
Maintain system security and access logs

The Service does not use personal information for marketing, profiling, or any unrelated purposes.

How Information Is Shared

You-Attend does not share, sell, or distribute personal information to third parties.

Access to data is limited to:

The institution’s authorized LMS users (instructors, administrators)
The You-Attend founder/developer (sole system administrator)

No subcontractors or external service providers have access to customer data.

Data Security

Protection Measures

All data in transit is protected with HTTPS using TLS 1.2 or TLS 1.3
Firewalls and IP restrictions for administrative access
Strong authentication for privileged accounts
Daily encrypted backups
Secure hosting environment with physical datacenter protections

Encryption at Rest: The production database is not currently encrypted with Transparent Data Encryption (TDE). Encryption at rest using TDE is planned for near-future implementation.

Data Retention

Attendance and related data are retained for the duration of the institution’s contract. Institutions may request earlier deletion at any time.

When a contract ends:

All institutional data is removed from the production database
Backups are overwritten following the retention schedule

User Access and Control

Users authenticate exclusively through their institution’s LMS. You-Attend does not create or manage user accounts directly.

Institutions control:

Which user data is shared
User roles and permissions
When access is removed

Cookies and Tracking

You-Attend uses only essential session cookies required for system functionality. The Service does not use:

Advertising cookies
Third-party analytics cookies
Behavioral tracking technologies

Children’s Privacy

You-Attend is not directed to children under 13. For K–12 implementations, districts remain responsible for COPPA compliance and LMS privacy settings.
